Yellowknife RTE 12 Noon - Wednesday, June 24, 2026 |
|
The date for the Yellowknife RTE is Wednesday June 24, 2026. Some of the persons who want to attend the RTE have jobs and if we have the RTE in the middle of the week ( Wednesday ) then they would only need to take off one week of vacation to attend. That way everyone would have the week and the weekend before the RTE and the weekend after the RTE. If we have the RTE on Saturday then they need to take off days for two different weeks. We will be having a Ride To Eat ( RTE ) in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Update: 3/12/2026 I have chosen the restaurant in Yellowknife, Coyote’s Family Steakhouse. I spoke with the owner, Ed, and this is a very nice restaurant and will have space to seat all of us. It has a wide range of food options that should work for everyone. This restaurant is walking distance from the Super 8 hotel where I am staying. While at the IBA Jacksonville party I invited Mike Kneebone, Ed Otto and Howard Entman. They have not committed to show up but it is possible. Update: 4/3/2026 The new hologram decals have arrived, see below. Registration Is Open - Please register for this RTE so we have an idea how many are planning to attend. We need this to be sure we pick a restaurant big enough for all of us. RTE Sign Up Link: Yellowknife RTE Registration - Ride Master The Yellowknife RTE is shaping up to be one of those rides people will be talking about for a long time. On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, we are having a Ride To Eat in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada. Lunch will be at 12 noon at Coyote’s Family Steakhouse, and as of now there are already 77 riders signed up to make the ride north. That number alone makes this pretty special. This is not a local lunch ride or a quick weekend run. This is Yellowknife. This is the Northwest Territories. This is one of those rides where just getting there is part of the story. Once riders cross into the Northwest Territories on Highway 1, they will still have about 330 miles to go before reaching Yellowknife. The road is paved, but it is remote, northern, and serious. Fuel planning matters. Weather matters. Good gear matters. Location tracking is a smart idea. This is exactly the kind of ride that attracts riders who enjoy a real adventure and understand that the best motorcycle memories usually happen far from home. June should make the ride even more interesting. In Yellowknife, the summer daylight stretches deep into the night. Riders could be rolling through the north with daylight lasting until around 2:00 AM and returning again around 4:00 AM. That alone will make this feel different from almost any other RTE. The destination is just as cool as the ride. Yellowknife sits on the northern shore of Great Slave Lake and is the capital of the Northwest Territories. It is known for its remote northern setting, long summer days, float planes, lakes, rugged scenery, and that “way up north” feeling that makes you realize you have actually ridden somewhere special. The bike list is already impressive too. BMWs, Hondas, Yamahas, Harleys, Kawasaki's, Triumphs, an Indian, and even a Victory are represented. Riders are coming on everything from GS Adventures and Gold Wings to FJRs, Harleys, Super Teneres, RTs, and touring bikes. That is what makes a good RTE even better — different riders, different bikes, different routes, all meeting at the same place for the same reason. Everyone who shows up will also receive one of the Yellowknife RTE hologram decals, which should make a great keepsake from a ride that will not be easy to forget. This ride is part of the “Bad As You Want To Be” series, and Yellowknife fits that name perfectly. It is far enough north to feel like a real accomplishment, remote enough to require planning, and cool enough that just saying “I rode to Yellowknife for lunch” will make other riders stop and ask questions. If you are thinking about going, registration is open on Ride Master. Signing up helps with planning and gives us a better idea of how many riders will be there. By the time June 24, 2026 gets here, this could turn into one of the coolest Ride To Eat events of the year. The ride to Yellowknife will be a big adventure, once you cross into the Northwest Territories ( NWT ), on highway 1 there will be a welcome center ( Sixtieth Parallel Territorial Park ) on the right side of the road. From there you will be 532 kilometers ( 330 miles ) to Yellowknife. Riding in the NWT will be interesting, in June it will be daylight to 2:00 AM and daylight will start around 4:00 AM. Highway 1 and highway 3 are paved roads but that does not mean there will not be some stretches that are challenging. There is always the chance of road construction anywhere along the route which could make the road a little more difficult for riding. Why Yellowknife RTE Is A Big Deal Ride
The availability of gas on the route after leaving Alberta is limited so you must keep an eye on your fuel range. I recommend buying gas just before you enter the NWT at the Indian Cabins Trading Post about 10 miles before you enter the NWT. It also would be a good place to meet up with other riders before entering the NWT. List of known gas stations in the NWT along Highway 1 and Highway 3.
Top Hotels In Yellowknife After the first of the year I will be providing a way for riders to connect who are riding to Yellowknife who want to partner up with another rider to ride together up to Yellowknife and or share hotel rooms in Yellowknife. Yellowknife RTE Decals
The Yellowknife RTE decals have arrived. There are a nice hologram 5 X 3 inch decal that should last a longtime. These will be provided to all of the riders who show up at the Yellowknife RTE. Location Tracking I recommend that you have some type of tracking device that will work with Spotwalla. A Spot, inReach, Zoleo or one of the cell phone tracking apps which are free. Yellowknife is way up in Canada and the route to get there passes through very remote areas. SpotWalla supports multiple devices, both satellite- and cellular-based devices. Satellite Based Trackers Include:
Cellular-Based Phones Apps Support Include:
I have created a Spotwalla location page for the RTE that everyone can join if you have a Spotwalla account. If you do not have a Spotwalla account I would think about getting one and setup some type of tracking. I will email all of the registered riders a link to join the Yellowknife RTE Spotwalla location page after the first of the year. Medical Evacuation Insurance: I recommend having some type of medical evacuation / travel protection like MedJet or Global Rescue. They are not required but do offer some piece of mind for you and your family. You can get only one month coverage for either of them. Riding Gear You will need good riding gear as it could rain and be very cold. There could even be snow in June along the route so plan accordingly. You should bring some type of rain gear that will help keep you dry. Also having some heated gear especially a heated jacket and gloves would be a good idea. Having waterproof boots that may also be nice just in case. Motorcycle Preparedness Try and be sure you motorcycle is ready to ride and you are carrying the tools and items that may be needed on a long ride. One of the items that I think is critical and I carry one is a siphon hose, I have not needed one for myself but having an AUX has allowed me to assist many other riders who have run out of gas.I have a inexpensive one from Amazon. I am a little overkill when it comes to carring tools and other items that I may need on a long adventure ride.
There will be more information posted on this webpage as it becomes available. There is a ride sign up ( link below ) on Jason's Ride Master so we have an idea who is planning on attending. There are many good hotels in Yellowknife and I have not yet booked a room. The road to Yellowknife is paved all the way. There may be some construction but the road is in good condition and you can attend this RTE on any motorcycle. |
